This the season for Christmas carolers, rooftop lights, and gingerbread houses, but it’s also the time of year to rack up hefty bills on gifts and party dresses. This holiday season, don’t let your telephone bill take a chunk of money that you could otherwise be spending on secret Santa presents and Christmas tree decorations.

My VoIP Provider wants to spread some holiday cheer by announcing some major ways in which you can save cash with a simple switch to VoIP services. For a point of comparison, customers that have already made the leap over to a VoIP provider have seen up to 80% savings on their monthly phone bills when they switched from a traditional telephone service provider.

VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, is a service that allows you to send and receive phone calls over the Internet. Rather than using a traditional phone line, the voice data travels over an IP network, essentially making any kind of call a local call, which in turn lowers the cost of your long distance and international phone calls.

Saving money on international phone calls is one of the most attractive benefits of using a VoIP provider. Because it is cheaper for your phone call to travel over the Internet in comparison to a phone line, VoIP services are able to charge more affordable prices.

To make an international call to a landline phone in the UK with a traditional phone service such as AT&T’s international dial pay-per-use plan, it would cost you $1.49/minute. On the other hand, with a VoIP service such as Axvoice, you could pay just $.015/minute for a call to the UK.

As for long distance calling within the United States or Canada, many VoIP providers offer free and unlimited calling to these areas in their set plans. You can make a call in New York to all of your cousins in Los Angeles to wish them a merry Christmas without timing it or worrying about rates per minute.

And in addition, VoIP services take the stress out of determining the difference between interstate, intrastate, and service area phone calls, which would ordinarily cost you extra with a traditional phone service. Most people don’t even realize that there are different rates for all of these different kinds of calls, but the less you know could really end up hurting you financially.

You can also save a lot in taxes by switching to VoIP. Traditional phone services are required to charge you state and federal taxes each month. These federal taxes are generally around 4%, while state taxes usually range from 5 to 7%. That means you could be paying close to, if not more than 10% of your monthly bill!

VoIP services, however, are exempt from paying many of these taxes because most of the data travels over the Internet, which is not heavily taxed. VoIP services therefore are currently only required to pay a Federal Excise Tax, which is just 3% of the cost of your monthly service

You can pay for your VoIP service in whichever way is most convenient for you. Lots of plans offer metered and unmetered plans and extensions. This means that you can design a plan that fits each of the callers in your home or office.

So, if you don’t make many calls from home, you can choose a metered plan and pay a low monthly call with low per minute rates. Or, you can pay a slightly higher rate for an unlimited plan without any per minute rates.

Or, if you have lots of extensions in your office, you can choose some unmetered and some metered plans as you need them. So, someone in sales could have an unmetered line, and someone in management could have a metered plan.

And of course, calling between any two numbers with the same provider are always free.

You can usually pay for service on a monthly or yearly basis. This means that if you want to try out the service for a little while before you commit, or if you anticipate needing to change your service, you can choose a monthly plan. However, it is usually cheaper to pay on a yearly basis if you are willing to make the commitment.

Now, since you know you’ll be saving cash once you make the VoIP switch, treat yourself to those extravagant holiday decorations and extra eggnog!

Finally here is my Christmas wish:

May the joy and peace of Christmas be with you all through the Year.

Wishing you a season of blessings from heaven above.

Happy Christmas
